How to Crop Images in Shopify
Step-by-Step Guide: How to Crop Images in Shopify Product Media
1. Access Your Shopify Admin
Log in to your Shopify admin dashboard.
2. Navigate to the Product Media
Go to Products in the left sidebar.
Click on the product whose image you want to crop.
Scroll to the Media section and click on the image you wish to edit.
3. Open the Media Editor
Click the pencil icon or the image thumbnail to open the media editor.
4. Select the Crop Tool
In the media editor, click on Crop and transform (may appear as just Crop on some interfaces).
5. Choose Your Crop Mode
You have several options for cropping:
Freeform: Click Freeform to crop the image to any custom size. Drag the corners or edges of the highlighted area, or move the crop box as needed.
Original: Click Original to maintain the image’s original aspect ratio while cropping. Adjust the size by dragging the corners.
Square: Click Square to crop the image into a perfect square. Drag the corners to resize, or move the square to the desired area.
6. Adjust the Crop Area
Drag the crop box to frame the part of the image you want to keep.
You can also use preset sizes or lock dimensions for uniformity across multiple images.
7. Apply the Crop
Once you’re satisfied with the crop, click Apply (or Done on some interfaces) to preview the change.
8. Save Your Changes
Click Save to make the crop permanent. This updates the image in your product media.
Additional Tips
Start with high-resolution images to maintain quality after cropping.
For uniform product images, use the same crop dimensions or aspect ratio for all product photos.
If you need to crop multiple images, repeat the steps for each image individually, as Shopify’s native editor does not support batch cropping.
This process works both on desktop and mobile, although the interface may look slightly different. On mobile, after opening the media editor, tap Crop image, adjust as needed, and tap Save to create a new copy of the image.
By following these steps, you can easily crop product images directly within Shopify, helping your store look more polished and professional.
